SAG Award 2014: Jennifer Lawrence's 10 Best Moments And Addressing Her 'Armpit Vagina' And Creeping Up On Taylor Swift

It's official! Jennifer Lawrence has the most flexible face in all of Hollywood. There were moments at last night's SAG Awards when she looked like she was trapped in a wind tunnel or perhaps auditioning for a part in a Gravitysequel. The actress gives good expression on the red carpet and whether she's shrieking at Lupita Nyong'o or gurning at Michael Peña, she's frickin' hilarious.

Paris menswear autumn/winter 2014: Cashing in at Kenzo, Dior Homme and Hermes

Kenzo chose to show their autumn/winter 2014 collection in the former Crédit Lyonnais headquarters. Symbolic, maybe, because menswear right now symbolises money in the bank for many a multi-billion fashion conglomerate. China is the motivating factor, where menswear sales make up approximately 55% of a luxury goods market set to become the world’s biggest (as compared to 40% on average worldwide). Hence the fact that the winter menswear shows seem bigger, more extravagant and more confident than usual. There’s buoyancy amongst the boys.

However, that doesn’t necessarily translate into innovative product. Menswear consumers are perceived as a conservative lot. The luxury goods houses, by and large, aren’t out to rock the boat. They want to line their pockets. That’s the motivation behind a season that has seen a focus on tailoring and on luxury over and above experiment or excitement. Count the sheer number of fur coats and trims, the ostentatious amount of precious skins like crocodile and python, and the seemingly contrary proliferation of dour wool suits. A pinstripe is about as experimental as you get.
Of course there are mavericks, like Rei Kawakubo of Comme Des Garçons, who kicked back against orthodoxy with a show that literally punched holes in the traditional man’s suit, allowing ruffled shirt trims to spill out like poplin intestines. Her protege Junya Watanabe also made a strong, Seditionaries-style showing of slashed-up, laddered mohair and spiked mohicans contrasted with sharp suiting, like the bowler-hatted conservatives of England doing battle with King’s Road punks in a single outfit.

A sheepskin coat from the Hermes autumn/winter 2014 collection by Veronique Nichanian
Hermes is a label synonymous with ludique luxury, but next season something struck a bum note. The massive fluffed shearling coats, Harringtons and pea coats with hems cuffed in calfskin and tender, featherlight leathers were typically Hermes. That is, beautiful, exquisitely-hewn and quietly but heinously expensive. All hallmarks of the house, and of menswear designer Veronique Nichanian’s tenure. However, there was something a little tasteless to catwalk tricks like a petrol-blue crocodile jacket studded with down, nose firmly thumbed at any semblance of practicality. That piece in particular felt like it was about the price-tag, not about the product – true luxury isn’t about flashing a lot of cash, but about obtaining something truly exceptional, irrespective of the cost.
It’s more an issue with the season as a whole rather than Hermes in particular, but this show lacked the ease of Nichanian’s last few seasons. Admittedly, sometimes it skews a little “Man From Del Monte” – linen suits and panama hats always do, no matter how hard a designer fights – but the relaxed confidence was this time too buttoned-up and self-conscious. Your attention was ultimately grabbed by the money on show, not the menswear.
Kenzo didn’t feel too precious. Which was satisfying. It didn’t try too hard, just showed great knits and sportswear pieces with a graphic, instant appeal. Kenzo isn’t high luxury – their price points under Humberto Leon and Carol Lim have been consistently accessible, opening the label to a new generation of fans. Arguably, those fans aren’t the most demanding. They like Kenzo when they do colour and print, clever sweatshirting, interesting fabric treatments. That’s what this collection delivered. A trio of bi-coloured knits – green against violet, pink against primrose, as bright as boiled sweets – were strong, so were plasticised outerwear pieces in hi-vis yellow and the collection’s key, cute motifs of metal cogs embroidered on togs, inspired by workwear, apparently. They worked, in any case.

Lily-of-the-valley nosegays on every seat at Dior Homme
Kris Van Assche’s Dior Homme also worked, as a whole. Not the tailoring splashed with embroidered dim-witted Dior iconography (archive couture rose motifs stamped onto coats, Christian Dior’s superstitious charms of coins, lily-of-the-valley and “lucky stars” polka-dotting pinstripe suits), but the gimmick-free, honest pieces, like slope-shouldered cashmere coats and straight-up pinstripes. Those were inspired by Monsieur Dior’s own attire, a man once described by Cecil Beaton as resembling a bland country curate made out of marzipan.
Nevertheless, Dior’s suits were tailored on Savile Row, and blokes still want suits of that sharpness. Probably not chicken-pocked with blooms, though. There were also a few enormous parkas and MA1 jackets in khaki nylon thrown into the mix. God knows what they had to do with Monsieur Dior. I guess the New Look emerged after the war, just as the suits emerged from under those army-inspired numbers. But that seems tenuous. Anyway, regardless of the inspiration, the bottom line remains that they looked like the clothes people will buy, and wear.

Filippa K and Lala Berlin

OK so she's not German but showed in the beautiful store in Tiergarten - all soft cashmeres, luxurious wool coats and effortless Skandi-cool. Another side-sweep that stole our hearts too.

So we've known about Lala Berlin for some time but rather enjoyed their new take on winter warmers: sweaters are the new scarves - it's a thing.

Marc Cain

The Marc Cain show was full of glorious coats - we especially love this teddy bear number teamed with a Sophia Loren-like head scarf. The flirty skirts and super-soft side sweeps were a joy too.

Berlin Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2014/15: What We Loved

Berlin Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2014/15: What We Loved

Modernist concrete, pretzels and Currywurst aside (not forgetting - those cute old-school film passport-booths that only cost 2 Euros a strip) we landed home yesterday with lots of fond fashion-focused memories of Berlin.
The week was a very real reminder of the fashion month madness to come (including the perenially forgettable need for waterproof everything and the joy of cabs). A major European hub of creativity, the capital offered us a smörgåsbord (yes we know that's not German but, it works) of new brands and exciting takes on style that are off our beloved beaten track - NY-London-Milan-Paris. Let us share our top 5 with you:

1. Schumacher

A brand that has long been on our radar but their new Autumn Winter 14/15 collection was truly delicious. With inspiring styling on the catwalk (the textural three-tier layering was bang-on) and some very well-heeled Schumacher girls at the store's after-party - we were totally under the sleek and chic brand's spell.

Cropped Looks | Fur Fashion Trends 2013

One of the big questions, not so long ago, was how to keep fur design fresh and youthful? Cropped Looks is one of the answers. Yes, this season had a great medley of cropped looks that are sure to win fans. Their spin on classic jackets, including blousons or bikers, shortened peacoats or kimonos, are allowing for greater versatility and wearability. These fur pieces complement a more mobile lifestyle, and work equally well with various wardrobe styles and age groups. Cropped fur looks are a MUST HAVE.

David Gandy - unsurprisingly - looked smart and oh-so sharp as he arrived in a three-piece suit at the Burberry show.

Brit singer Paloma Faith is pretty in pink at the Burberry show, wearing a lacey dress from the brand's Spring/Summer '14 collection. Teamed with a baby blue coat, we love the heady mix of pastels.

Jonathan Saunders to consult for Paul Smith

When two become one: Sir Paul Smith has recruited Jonathan Saunders to consult on his womenswear line

Jonathan Saunders will bring his unusual aesthetic to Paul Smith

According to gossip at the men's shows this week Sir Paul Smith has recruited Jonathan Saunders to "consult" - which is fashion speak for a little moonlighting. Even better, that yarn turns out to be true. A well-placed source confirmed in Milan this week that the young Scottish designer will indeed be working with Sir Paul and his team on their women's clothes for next season.

What refreshing news. So many fashion designers - especially in Europe - are so driven by ego that they can barely acknowledge the existence of their up-and-coming peers. As for inviting them to chuck in some fresh perspective for a collection or two? Jamais.
Paul Smith's women's clothes don't need the input of Saunders. He has an excellent formula based on incorporating the "classic with a twist" masculine tailoring that he invented into a feminine context. So why recruit an outsider?
Saunders, like Smith, relishes colour, tailoring and detail but he ranges much more widely from collection to collection than Smith tends to. Saunders has grown into an expert conceiver of clothes that appeal not only to fashion collectors but women who are more simply in search of an unusual but feminine dress. It will be fascinating to see what of Saunders' aesthetic will be visible in the collection.
READ: Jonathan Saunders spring/summer 2014 show report
The mythology of fashion holds that designers conceive, sketch, and oversee the production of every item that bears their name - or the name of their fashion house - on the catwalk. But once their business is a certain size, that becomes impossible. The truth is that most big-name designers operate more like orchestra conductors than single-instrument soloists. To avoid insanity, they have to hire in designers to help bear the weight of demand.
What's unusual is to hire in another "author" designer, such as Saunders. He is at a far earlier stage in his career than Sir Paul and still, after one of his women's shows, has the fraught and weepy aspect of a man who has been awake for days designing each detail himself. As well as money in the bank, Saunders should gain more from his spell as a member of Sir Paul's ensemble; after all, the older designer has a 300-strong store network, a huge business in Japan, and a Zen-like attitude to his work.
READ: Inside designer Paul Smith's office
We'd relish more of these high fashion designer partnerships - especially if they're being conducted informally. Here are three we'd be especially fascinated to see:
Jenny Packham at Giorgio Armani: Packham punches well above her weight on the red carpet - she just landed another direct hit designing Dame Helen Mirren's dress at the Golden Globes. So imagine what she could learn from the inventor of modern red carpet dressing.
Henry Holland at Moschino: After the departure of Rossella Jardini, the perfectly hired American designer Jeremy Scott is about to take over at Moschino. But Holland could be an excellent backing singer, especially in accessories, at the house that pioneered visual jokes as fashion.
Erdem at Oscar De La Renta: Although De La Renta's brand of uptown elegance is decades-established and solid as a rock, Erdem could be just the designer to give it a gentle refresh. And the New York-based Brazilian could teach the London-based Canadian a lifetime's worth of wisdom. They'd get along well, too.

Katie Holmes Debuts New Hair Cut & Color!

A new year is almost here, so a new hair look is??? A MUST, of course! And this is clearly the principle that Katie Holmes recently applied. Yes ladies, the stunning actress—who turned 35 this month, believe it or not—has followed the lead of so many of her peers and gone for a hair makeover herself. A cut or a dye? Not exactly… Actually, Holmes has done both! She chopped off at least six inches of her long tresses to turn them into a chic, subtle, shoulder length bob. She also dyed them… Oh no, she went blonde? Nope, Suri’s mother is still a brunette! Which means? Relax. All it means is that she went a few shades darker for a rich, warm hue.
Katie, who is the face & co-owner of Alterna Haircare , a natural, organic, beauty brand, debuted her new shorter, darker tresses at the Z100 Jingle Ball 2013 in New York City on Friday, Dec. 13. Our sweet superstar literally turned all heads, not just with her new locks, of course, but also with her sexy and fashionable outfit (short black skirt + studded sweater)—what a bombshell! If you don’t believe how sexy she looked at this event, study the attached pictures & judge for yourself. By the way, I have to warn you that at first glance you may not notice her new dark chocolate hair color. The solution? Duh! Of course, the solution is to look again… Yes, it’s just that simple! Oh! After doing so, don’t neglect to tell us: What do you think of the actress’s brand new hairstyle? Do you love or loathe it?
